Introducing the two beneficiaries for this event; Bike Newport & The Newport County YMCA
Bike Newport
Bike Newport is deeply committed to ensuring equitable and inclusive access to biking, with all the accompanying benefits including improved health, independence, confidence, and the special exhilaration we call bike happiness.
Proceeds from An Evening with Chris Waddell will support Bike Newport's advocacy for traffic-separated infrastructure for vulnerable road users, and our accessible programs and events including our work with the Life Skills program at Thompson Middle School and providing adaptive trikes at our car-free community events.
About Bike Newport:
Bike Newport makes bicycling accessible and welcoming for all, improving safety with engaging educational programs for children, and working to make our streets safer for walking and riding. We’re promoting healthier and more climate-friendly living, reducing traffic congestion, and broadly enhancing economic opportunity and quality of life. Each year we serve up to 8,000 people, empower 1,250 riders with collaborative repairs, teach 700 children to ride safely, and distribute 450 restored bikes with helmets and lights. Bike Newport's mission is to create the conditions that lead to more people biking more often, and to ensure that bicycling is a viable, safe, and comfortable primary choice for transportation and recreation.
The Newport County YMCA
The Newport County YMCA is dedicated to fostering an inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to participate in physical activities, enhancing health, independence, and confidence. Our Inclusion Program, specifically focused on Adapted Physical Activities and the Special Olympics Sharks Team, empowers individuals of all abilities to engage in sports and discover the joy of movement.
Proceeds from An Evening with Chris Waddell will directly support our Inclusion Program, ensuring that we can provide the necessary resources and adaptive equipment for our athletes and participants. This support is crucial for enhancing our programs, helping individuals build skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships.
About the Newport County YMCA:
The Newport County YMCA champions inclusivity and well-being for all community members. Our Adapted Physical Activities program is designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities, providing tailored experiences that promote physical fitness and social engagement. Our Special Olympics Sharks Team offers athletes the chance to train and compete in a supportive environment, celebrating their achievements and fostering teamwork.
Each year, the YMCA serves thousands of individuals through various programs, creating a positive impact on health, self-esteem, and community connection. Our mission is to promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where everyone can thrive, ensuring that everyone has access to the life-changing benefits of sports and physical activity.
