Longmont Oktoberfest is a great event bringing the community together to celebrate each other. In a time of uncertainty and division, we should be glad to recognize that we are united by compassion for animals and marvel at the impact they have on our lives! This year, we are fundraising for three important local non-profits who support animal welfare in our community: Longmont Humane Society, Annie and Millie's Place, and Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Here is a brief introduction to them and their work in our neighborhoods!
Longmont Humane Society: Our local animal shelter takes in about 3,500 strays and surrenders annually and applying dedicated training and behavior modification to make the road to adoption easier and long-lasting. "Our mission of caring, serving, and educating to improve the lives of companion animals has gotten us to a point of a 98% live return rate!"
Annie and Millie's Place: This organization was created out of the idea that people and their pets should have the opportunity to stay together, no matter the situation. The pillar of our purpose is to build an open-minded network of people and bring awareness to human-animal homelessness. "Our mission is to keep humans experiencing homelessness together with their fur family by evolving pet-friendly solutions, programs, and resources."
Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center: Located near Lyons, they are the only wildlife rehabilitation center treating wild birds, water fowl, and mammals along the Front Range from the Wyoming border to Pueblo. "Our mission is to provide compassionate care to orphaned, injured, and sick wildlife"
