The Virginia Track Coaches Association will be holding its seventh annual convention on June 23 – June 24th 2023 at Eastern Mennonite University.  The convention includes the coaches social, a plethora of knowledgeable speakers, a Saturday group run, recognition of the 2023 VTCA scholarship winners, and awarding of the Distinguished Alumni Award.

The general meeting will recognize the 2023 receipts of the VTCA scholarship with two awards per gender.

The current officer team and remaining in office through the 2025 clinic are as follows:

President: Jamarri Price, Thomas Dale High School

Vice President: Matt Denlinger, Harrisonburg High School

Treasurer: Nici Rhodes, Glen Allen High School

Secretary: Mark Tompkins, Jamestown High School

On Friday, the clinic will begin with a association meeting led by Jamarri Price and a brief introduction by clinic director, Matt Denlinger.  Following the meeting, the clinic will kickoff with it’s first speaker, Shawn Venable, speaking about the “purpose of coaching.”  Following Coach Venable will be the clinic keynote speaker, Ron Helmer of Indiana University.  A former VA cross country and track hall of famer, formerly Woodbridge High School and Virginia High School.  Following his success in the high school coaching ranks, Coach Helmer went on to coach at Georgetown University and Indiana University.  Throughout his coaching career, he has led his teams to 28 NCAA Top-10 finishes, coached 416 All-Americans and 8 Nationals Champions.

The convention concludes on Saturday, with a multitude of speakers, covering the many disciplines of track and field.  Speakers include Shawn Venable of Liberty University, former Olympian, Skeeter Jackson, Carl Blickle of Ursinus College, Denver Davis of Bridgewater College, Bill Walton, formerly of James Madison University, Sean Rice, former professional thrower and strong man, and many more speakers.

Clinic attendees will be able to sign up for the VTCA sponsored events, including, but not limited to the VTCA cross country invitational at Panorama Farms and the Walt Cormack Memorial held at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Registration: The cost of the 2023 clinic will be $125.00 (+$8.50 processing fees)

1. 2023-2024 VTCA Dues
2. One Single Room on Campus in EMU Dorms (Coaches not wanting to stay on campus are responsible for finding their own accommodations)
2a. Coaches should bring their own linens.  EMU will provide a pillow and blanket but not linens.
3. Coaches Social and catered dinner by Woodgrill Buffet (Drinks not included) on Friday, 6/23
4. Breakfast and Lunch at EMU Dining Hall on Saturday, 6/24
