Ink Your Story
Join us for a day of storytelling and community building across the Denver Metro area.
In honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, Jefferson Center is hosting its inaugural
Suicide Awareness Semicolon Tattoo Event
September 7, 2024 | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Hope;ink serves as a meaningful extension of the broader worldwide initiative, providing a local platform for individuals to "ink" their story, unite in solidarity, and express themselves through the semicolon symbol. For a minimum donation of $50, attendees can choose from a selection of impactful semicolon tattoos. Donation options are available for those unable to attend or who would like to make this experience possible for another individual. All proceeds from this event will benefit Jefferson Center’s programs and services. Click here to learn more.
A tattoo often symbolizes a decision to honor loss, celebrate triumphs, or commemorate life experiences. At Jefferson Center, we're dedicated to helping individuals share, heal, and possibly rewrite their stories through our mission and services. Attendees will have opportunities to engage by sharing their stories, get access to mental health resources if they need them, honoring lost loved ones, or celebrating their resilience. Several tattoo shops across the Denver metro area are participating in this event, and there will be mental health resources and education opportunities available at every location.
Choose Your Location
PLEASE NOTE: Each individual receiving a tattoo must sign a waiver during the registration process. Therefore, please complete a separate transaction for each tattoo (1 tattoo per transaction). Thank you!

Plan Ahead
Important information regarding the event and getting your tattoo:
- You must be at least 18 years old to receive a tattoo at this event. You will be required to sign a waiver and present a valid photo ID when you arrive.
- You will be able to choose from 20 standard semicolon designs. They all are black ink only and are approximately one to three inches in size.
- Each tattoo appointment will be 15 minutes, start to finish. To keep the wait time at a minimum, the appointments are scheduled in one-hour time slots, and there will be multiple tattoo artists available at each location.
- Each tattoo artist is donating their time and talent for this event – tipping is not required, but tips are allowed and will be happily accepted! Tips may be in cash or if the artist has a payment app such as Venmo.
A few helpful tips if this is your first tattoo:
- It’s best to decide ahead of time where you want your tattoo placed. Things to consider are whether you want it somewhere visible or private, and your level of pain tolerance. Getting a tattoo typically involves some pain, but the location and your personal tolerance will affect how much it hurts. Fleshy areas are less painful, while bony areas such as the neck, spine, ankles and feet are more painful.
- For best results, arrive for your appointment well-rested and hydrated. Limit caffeine and avoid alcohol and pain medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen 24 hours prior to receiving your tattoo.
- Wear clothing that will leave the area to be tattooed exposed, or wear something loose that you can easily move aside.
- Your tattoo artist will provide you with aftercare instructions once your tattoo is finished.
Invisible Ink: No Tattoo Option
Don’t want a tattoo? No problem! Invisible Ink is your opportunity to participate in Hope;ink by donating to the event – no tattoo required!

About Jefferson Center
Celebrating our 66th year, Jefferson Center is a nonprofit, community-focused mental health care and substance use services provider. We offer hope and support to individuals and families who are struggling with mental health issues and substance use disorders. At Jefferson Center, it is our policy and our mission to be inclusive and mindful of the diversity of everyone who comes through our doors.
Jefferson Center has adopted the Zero Suicide policy. The foundational belief of Zero Suicide is that suicide deaths for individuals under the care of health and behavioral health systems are preventable, and it presents an aspirational framework toward safer suicide care. Zero Suicide is based on the realization that people experiencing suicidal thoughts and urges often fall through the cracks in health care systems. There is an opportunity to make a real difference by transforming how patients are screened and the care they receive.
