Dr. Chantara R. Carter

PROGRAM MANAGER

Dr. Carter is currently a teacher with Clayton County Public Schools.  She has 20 years of teaching experience and has worked with all levels including K-12 and the district.  In her consulting work, Dr. Carter has specialized in aspects of effective pedagogy, curriculum planning, professional development and parent and community engagement.

 

Dr. Carter has worked as a Title I Programs Specialist (K-12), Implementation Specialist (K-12), School Improvement Specialist and Elementary Math Specialist. Her work has ranged from the training of teachers and school administrators in aspects of best practices, rigorous curriculum, data driven instruction and assessment, integration of technology, program implementation to presentations at conferences including the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM) and Georgia Educational Research Association (GERA).

 

Dr. Carter has a rich and varied educational background. She holds a BA in Early Childhood from Georgia State University, Masters in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts and an Educational Specialist/Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. 

Jessie Goree

ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER

Jessie Goree is the proud Chair of the Clayton County Board of Education. Ms. Goree was elected to Clayton County Board of Education in August 2008 to represent District 3. She was sworn in on September 22, 2008 to complete an unexpired term for the seat representing District 3. She served as Board Vice Chair from September 22 through December 2008.

 

Jessie Goree is a retired educator with thirty-one plus years of experience in the Atlanta Public Schools and Clayton County Public Schools. Her teaching experience includes all subjects in elementary and middle schools with expertise in mathematics.  In addition to her administrative experience at the elementary and middle school levels in curriculum instruction, Ms. Goree was most recently the Director of the Even Start Family Literacy program in Clayton County Public Schools.

 

As a retired educator, Ms. Goree continues her service as a member of various community organizations including, the North Clayton High School PTSA, the North Clayton High School Band Boosters, New Macedonia Baptist Church, the City of Riverdale Appeals Board, the Clayton County NAACP, East Point/College Park Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., the Krystal Williams Foundation, and the Atlanta Chapter of the National Action Network.

 

She received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Louisville and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Educational Administration. Ms. Goree also received an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration at Troy State University.

 

Ms. Goree’s philosophy of education is embodied in the quote, “Education is the passport to your future.”  To her, education is the foundation for all life choices providing children with the foundation and opportunities to reach their fullest potential.

 

She is a resident of Riverdale, proud mother of two children, and five very special grandchildren.

Mark Christmas

ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER

Rev. Mark A. Christmas was born to the parents of Isaac and Beverly Christmas in New Orleans, Louisiana.  At an early age, Rev. Christmas and his family moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he was educated in the public school system.  In 1991, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.  Rev. Christmas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Shorter College and completed a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in 2013.

 

His experience in the Clayton County Public School system as a Parent Liaison, Graduation Coach, and Safe and Drug Awareness Coordinator has made him valuable to the community as well. He currently serves as a school board member for Clayton County School District Two with the best interest of the students paramount in his service.

 

He is married to the lovely Betrice Christmas, passionately known as Lady B.  They have two sons, Sherwin and Mark Jr., and three grandchildren.
