MTC Grand Prix Series
The 2024 Maine Track Club Grand Prix Series features six events that are owned and organized by the MTC and two events that are supported by the club:
- Midwinter Classic 10-Miler
- Longfellow Frostbite 2.5K
- Peaks Island Road Race
- Maine Marathon and Half Marathon
- Farm to Farm Ultra
- Turkey Trot
- Mother's Day 5K
- Clam Festival Classic
Races that are canceled will not count in the series and will not be replaced by other events. Any MTC member who participates in every race – either in-person or virtual – will get a special MTC Grand Prix jacket. If you've already received a jacket by participating in all GP races in a previous year, you'll get a 2023 Grand Prix patch that can be attached to the jacket. Runners accumulate points toward both the overall series standings and age-group standings based on their place of finish. Age groups are as follows:
- 1-19
- 20-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70-79
- 80+
To be eligible to win an award, participants must be an MTC member before the final race in the series – the Turkey Trot – but all finishers in each race are scored, regardless of membership. The top scoring club member in each division will be declared the Grand Prix winner of that division. Points for in-person events will be awarded based on overall finish position and age-group position (both categories split by gender), with a minimum number of points for every runner. For in-person events, each participant will get a minimum of 15 points toward the overall category. First place is worth 50 points, second is worth 49 points, and so on down to 15 points for 36th place and beyond. Age-group scoring starts at 25 points for first place, down to 10 points for 16th place or lower. For each virtual event, all participants will get 15 points toward the overall category and 10 toward age-group scoring. No additional points will be awarded. Members can earn extra Grand Prix points if a race has virtual options, but you can score points in only one virtual distance per race (in addition to scoring points for the in-person race). For example, Longfellow Frostbite participants can choose between three virtual options – 2.5K run, 2.5K walk and 2.5K swim – and earn 15 points toward the overall category and 10 points toward age-group scoring.
