Update 8/4/22: Event Cancelled

Due to the upcoming shutdown of the MBTA Orange Line and its impact on transportation in the area surrounding Franklin Park, we are canceling our walk scheduled for August 24th. While we are disappointed to not be exploring the park with our friends at Just Walk Boston and the Franklin Park Coalition, we do not want to make travel difficult for event participants, the majority of whom come to our events via public transit. We hope to be able to host a future event in Franklin Park.

The walk will focus on Franklin Park, and is part of Olmsted Now: Greater Boston’s Olmsted Bicentennial taking place in 2022. It is also our second group walk of the year, after not hosting any since 2019! The walk will end at the Franklin Park Clubhouse (with starting location to be announced very soon; we will include the address as well as ways to get to the meeting point via public transportation. The 14, 16, 22, 28, 29, 45 buses all are a short walk from the Franklin Park Clubhouse.)

On this walk, you'll hear from:

  • the Franklin Park Coalition about their work and current initiatives for the park,

  • Brandi Cruthird of Just Walk Boston, a group founded as a way of fighting pandemic-induced loneliness and segregated public space through the simple act of walking. Read about the group in the Boston Globe. (Brandi & Just Walk Boston received a Golden Shoe at our annual meeting this past March.)

  • ...and others to be announced soon!

WalkBoston walks typically last 90 minutes, covering 1-1.5 miles and include stops along the way to hear from 3-4 people/organizations who are working on walking-related efforts in the community. Updates will be available on the WalkBoston website & sent to all registered attendees before the event.
