Parade Rules
Rules and Regulations for the 2024 Christmas Parade
All participants must agree to abide by all rules listed below.
Thank you for your participation in the 2024 Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber
of Commerce Christmas Parade. Please take a few minutes to thoroughly review
the rules & regulations before you sign the release waiver. If you or your
organization has questions, please feel free to call the Chamber at 606-679-7323.
Parade officials will designate "Santa Claus." Any other Santa Claus (including
Mrs. Claus) will not be allowed. This avoids confusion for small children. Any
violation of this rule will result in your group being asked to leave the Parade.
Stuffed or fake Santas are acceptable.
Floats & Vehicles:
• Participants must have a leader designated to check in with parade
coordinators.
• Group leaders are responsible for all vehicles, equipment, and individuals
participating in their entry
• Each Parade participant must present evidence of liability insurance for each
entry including, but not limited to, all motor vehicles, trailers, and any
individual assigned.
• All floats, vehicles, and entries must have a person of the age of 21 or older as
a participant and/or driver.
• A Parade entry is defined as having no more than 3 vehicles participating.
Additional vehicles will result in additional fees for your organization.
• Vehicles, that aren’t street legal, can only be driven in the Parade.
• Float assignments are made based on information given on the forms that
you have filled out. That is another reason why it’s important to be as
accurate and informative as possible.
• No semi’s or tractor-trailers will be allowed to participate in the Parade. There
are multiple turns where the turning radius is too tight and poses a risk to
bystanders watching the Parade.
• The maximum height of Parade floats will be 12.5 feet.
• All items on floats and vehicles must be properly secured to not cause a
hazard to any participant or spectator.
• No Parade participant may ride with feet hanging over the side of the float
• Entries should not stop along Parade route for any reason except if the
Parade stops or in the event of an emergency.
• All floats that use a flat-bed trailer are encouraged to provide some sort of
skirting around the bottom to keep individuals from falling underneath the float.
• No candy or other items may be thrown from floats or vehicles.
Information and candy may be handed out by parade participants directly to
parade attendees if they’re able to do so safely while keeping pace.
• Non-Commercial & Commercial vehicles including Fire Trucks, Ambulances
and Police Cars are asked to use discretion and not excessively blow their
horn or sirens throughout the Parade route. The noise detracts from the
judging of entries and the music of the Parade.
• At the conclusion of the Parade, floats should be unloaded at the Pulaski County Judicial Center.
Operating A Vehicle:
• All drivers must have a current driver’s license and a copy of a valid vehicle
insurance verification at the time of the Parade.
• No person operating a vehicle or other moving equipment shall be permitted
to operate a cellular device, including no texting, while in the Parade route.
• Drivers must always have complete control of moving equipment.
• Each entry shall have a spotter in the cab of the vehicle, who is 18 years of
age or older, viewing the float at all times. (In addition to the driver)
• Participants may not be added or removed from floats during Parade.
(Except during emergencies.)
• Entries must maintain steady movement along the designated Parade route only,
with a 20-30 foot cushion between entries.
• Entries experiencing difficulties must move out of the Parade route.
Parade Line Up:
• The parade begins promptly at 5:00 pm in the Meece Middle School Parking Lot.
• Non-Parade vehicles are not permitted into the staging area. Groups
should establish a meeting place outside of the Parade area to meet and then
walk to their float or use the designated “drop-off” area to offboard safely
Parade participants.
• Line-up begins at 1:30 pm. Please be patient as we get all floats to their
designated location.
• Entries not in position by 5:00 pm will not be allowed to participate and will
forfeit their participation. Due to the high volume of traffic, we strongly
recommend planning extra time for arrival.
• Any misconduct during line up shall result in your entry not participating in the
Parade. There will be no fighting amongst entries over any subject matter.
• Parade volunteers will be treated with respect. Any violation of this rule will
result in your immediate removal from the Christmas Parade.
No Drone Zone:
• Only authorized drones are prohibited at the Somerset-Pulaski County
• All other drones are prohibited.
Christmas Parade.
• All other drones are prohibited.
Weather / Cancelation & Refund Policy
• In the event of inclement weather, the Parade will continue as scheduled
unless the City of Somerset Police deem the weather to be extreme and raise
safety concerns.
• Your attendance in the event during inclement weather is at your discretion.
However, if you choose NOT to attend, please email the Parade Committee
by 2 pm the day of the event so we can adjust.
• There will be no postponement or rescheduling of the Parade.
• Because there are required expenditures that will not be refundable, even in
the event of a cancellation, we must maintain a “no refund” policy for
sponsors & parade entries.
Judging:
• All entries must be in place and ready to be judged at 4:30 pm.
• Judges will judge each entry and awards will be handed out to the floats that
demonstrate the best use of creativity and ability to stick to the theme of the parade.
• We will tally up the judge’s points and announce the winners prior to the start
of the Parade. We will also post the winners on the website no later than
Monday following the Parade.
Lost and Found:
• All items that are turned in to a Chamber of Commerce volunteer during the
Parade will be taken to the Chamber Office (236 E. Mt. Vernon Street –
Somerset, KY 42501) for the owner to pick up beginning Monday, December 4th at 9:00 AM.
Alcohol:
ALCOHOL IS NOT ALLOWED. The presence of alcohol creates huge liabilities.
If you are found with alcohol before (line up) and during (while in route) the
Parade you will leave and your participation in the Parade will cease. No alcohol
in coolers, disguised with koozies, in buckets, etc. Remember that you are being
watched by thousands but most especially by children. We also want to keep the
Parade a safe one for all.
