What can I expect?
This is an outside festival on a farm. Please dress appropriately. Closed-toe shoes are strongly encouraged.
There will be vendors, kids activities, ample photo opportunities, animals, and more!
Parking is on a grass lot. There is a gravel path through the middle of the festival, but to see everything you will also need to walk through grass. We've done our best to make the festival wheelchair-accessible but not all areas will be easily accessed by wheelchair; there is uneven ground in some parts of the field.
Can I bring my dog?
Well-behaved dogs are allowed (on leashes) but please use your best judgement due to the heat. If you bring your four-legged friend please make sure to clean up after them! We'll have water available to purchase, but feel free to bring water for your four-legged friend as well!
When is the best time to visit?
Virginia summers can be hot, so if you're not used to the heat we recommend visitng in the early morning or evening hours. In case of inclement weather, we will update our website, facebook, and instagram pages so make sure to check there before coming if they're calling for bad weather.
Is outside food allowed?
Outside food is not allowed. We will update our social media pages with what food to expect at our event as we confirm the vendors.
- Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23: Come get a delicious corn dog, chicken tenders, or french fries from our local Fife Auxiliary.
- Saturday June 22: Cool off with some delicious ice cream from our neighboring dairy's new venture - Farmview Creamery will be joining us from 12-8pm
- Kona will be there all weekend, cool off with a shaved ice!
Will there be animals?
We will have some dairy calves at the event for everyone to visit with. When visiting the animal area, please make sure to keep children from climbing on/through gates around animals. Dogs are not permitted in animal area, no matter how well-behaved they are.
Why are you only open for a short time period?
Sunflowers are beautiful when they're blooming, but their blooms only last for a short time period. Come check out our banner depicting the sunflowers' life cycle at the festival!
How do I cut sunflowers?
Sunflowers may be cut from the Pick-your-own area ONLY. We will also have a limited amount of pre-cut flowers available if you don't want to pick them yourself.
Bring your scissors or pruning shears to cut the stem - sunflower stems are thick and hard to break. We do have a limited amount of shears available to rent out.
What do I do with my cut flowers?
First, we recommend picking your flowers just before you leave, after you've enjoyed the rest of the field/festival. After they're cut, flowers do best in cool temperatures so they will last longer if you pick them as you leave and take them straight home. AVOID leaving your flowers in the hot car! At the exit tent we will wrap the base of your flower in a wet paper towel but if you prefer to bring a tall vase or bucket to put them in in the car that works well!
When you get them home, some tips:
- Keep out of direct sunlight
- Trim the stem at an angle every 2-3 days and change the water in your vase
- Add marbles to the vase - sunflowers are very top-heavy!
Is smoking permitted?
No; smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes and marijuana are strictly prohibited on the property.
