'For there is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it." – Amanda Gorman
TIME TO HEAL is a free community event that takes place on September 20, the evening before our headline event RUN RICHMOND 16.19. This restorative community healing practice addresses the deeply rooted intergenerational traumas caused by slavery & racial oppression. It connects us as one, promotes understanding, compassion, and forgiveness, and imagines a way toward reconciliation and collective healing.
This powerful event takes place at the Shed in the heart of Shockoe Bottom. Formerly the 2nd biggest slave market, home of Devil’s Half Acre and the African American burial grounds, this place has an energy that reflects the pain and injustices of the past. It is right here that you will encounter the Reconciliation Statue, a monument that represents a powerful apology for the unspeakable horrors and lasting consequences of slavery. Its inscription beautifully summarizes our intentions:
"Acknowledge and forgive the past. Embrace the present. Shape a future of reconciliation and justice".
Date: Friday, September 20 | 5:00 – 8:00 PM
