The Water Works Park Foundation invites you to join us as we celebrate Earth Day by promoting rainscaping practices with a rain barrel workshop.

Rain barrels are a form of rainwater harvesting: collecting water from your roof and storing it for later use around your property. A typical rain barrel can hold 55 gallons of water for gardening, cleaning, and more. This can save you money on your water bill and reduce the amount of runoff and pollution in our water bodies. Join the Water Works Park Foundation and the Izaak Walton League of Des Moines on Thursday, April 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for a make-and-take rain barrel workshop.

The Rain Campaign will present the proper installation, benefits, and maintenance of rain barrels and guide you through making your barrel. Visit the Rain Campaign website to learn about the available Des Moines metro rebate programs.

Just so you know, the Rain Barrel Workshop is offered for participants aged 14 and over, as it requires power tools. All participants must sign a liability waiver upon check-in at Izaak Walton League.

We recommend one rain barrel per household if you want to participate in the City of Des Moines stormwater subsidy program, which offers a rebate for your workshop registration fee. However, you only need to pay for one household member with your registration. There is no registrant fee for additional members of the household to attend.
