November is National Children's Grief Awareness Month
In 2022, 1 out of 14 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18 in New Jersey alone - over 142,000 children grieving. By age 25, that number more than doubles to 351,000 youth. Between April 2020 and June 2021, more than 140,000 children in the US lost a parent or caregiver to COVID-19.
“All of us – especially our children – will feel the serious immediate and long-term impact for generations to come. Addressing the loss that these children have experienced – and continue to experience – must be one of our top priorities, and it must be woven into all aspects of our emergency response, both now and in the post-pandemic future.” - Susan Hillis, CDC
