Ghent District Foundation

Norfolk, VA 23517 US

About Us

At a Board Retreat for the Ghent Business Association in 2021 the idea of forming a foundation was discussed as a way to help support The Ghent District in other ways than through the functions of the Business Association. A committee was formed to pursue the idea, and the Foundation was formally formed in 2022. The goals for the Foundation are to prevent blight in the Ghent District, support underprivileged entrepreneurs and minority businesses, support an environment of inclusion and diversity and to preserve the Ghent Historic Corridor. The Foundation operates as a Section 501(c)(3) organization per the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

Our Mission

The purpose of this organization shall be to work to prevent blight in the Ghent District, support underprivileged entrepreneurs and minority owned businesses, and promote and support the preservation of the historic Ghent corridor and the non-profit organizations within the community; and to operate exclusively in a manner for such charitable purposes as will qualify it as an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or under any corresponding provisions of any subsequent federal tax laws, covering the distributions to organizations qualified as tax exempt organizations under the Internal Revenue Code, as amended, including foundations and private operating foundations.

Ghent History

Image

Ghent is one of the most unique gems of Hampton Roads. It possesses a unique flair unrivaled by surrounding neighborhoods, and even on a national scale it is representative of the best of American ideals. Ghent is identifiable by its unsubtle support of diversity, activism, inclusion, and environmental care, as well as the undeniable vibrancy of its people, residences, and local businesses. If you’re on the hunt for somewhere truly eclectic and special to either visit, move to, or work in, Ghent has your name written all over it!
