Vince Wojnar Scholarship
A scholarship in remembrance of Vince Wojnar was established to honor a male and female college-bound student-athlete who is graduating from a high school encompassing PIAA District 2. Vince was the co-founder of the Wyoming Valley Striders in 1975 and passed away on January 18, 2018. He was a staple in the running community. Vince volunteered half of his life to the WVS serving in various positions on the board from 1975-2018 and was race director for Strider races up until his retirement in 2015.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have competed in and finished at the varsity level in cross country or in an individual event in track and field at the PIAA District 2 meet during their senior year.

2024 Winners
Daniel Danilovitz, Riverside
Daniel Danilovitz was the 2023 District 2 Class 2A cross country champion and the 2024 District 2 Class 2A track and field champion in the 3200-meter run. He plans to attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he will major in pre-dentistry and continue his running career on the cross country and track teams.
Aria Messner, Pittston Area
Aria Messner was a 2024 three-time District 2 Class 3A track and field champion in the 100-meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, and long jump, and she took second place in the high jump. She plans to attend Bloomsburg University, where she will continue her athletic career on the track and field team. Aria will major in medical imaging and minor in nuclear medicine.
