Savanté Stringfellow grew up in Jackson, MS and attended Provine High School. He won the 5A State Championship High Jump as a senior and was named to the All-State track team by Clarion Ledger.
He attended Ole Miss for college where he was coached by MSHOF inductee Joe Walker. While at Ole Miss, Savanté was a 6-time All-American - 3 times in outdoor long jump, 2 times in indoor long jump, and 1 time in indoor 4x400 relay. He set the school record for indoor and outdoor long jump and is 4th all-time scores in Ole Miss history with 30.25 indoor and overall scorers with 67.
In 2000, he finished in the top 3 at US Olympic Trials, earning a spot on the Olympic team for the Sydney Olympics. From May 1999 - March 2004, Stringfellow claimed 13 first place long jump finishes. He won gold medals in long jump at the World Indoor & Outdoor Championships. In 2004, he tore his Achilles tendon, which prevented him from competing in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
In addition to being inducted into the MS Sports Hall of Fame, Savanté is also a member of the Ole Miss Athletic Hall of Fame.
