Alexa Carr
Presenting on Ways to Fuel On & Off the Trail
Alexa is a private running coach and the head coach of the Central Kitsap High School Cross-Country team. She is USATF-certified and has more than 15 years of personal endurance racing experience in running and paddle sports. Alexa firmly believes in the importance of strength and cross-training to build and maintain a sustainable mileage base, avoid injury, and reliably improve performance.
Alexa's presentation will outline fueling focus in all stages of race prep: training, race day morning, during the race, and recovery. This presentation will synthesize the insights of nutritionists, sports dietitians, and research scientists to underscore key messages of balance and variation in individual needs in endurance sports.
Spencer Larsen, DPT
Presenting on Strength & Injury Prevention for Runners
Spencer is a licensed physical therapist. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology from Utah State in 2011 and then completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Utah in 2014, where he graduated with honors. He currently works for Olympic Medical Center Physical Therapy and Rehab, where he started and runs the Running Clinic and treats patients/athletes of all ages in outpatient care. Spencer's experience in the clinic has provided him with a great opportunity and background to help runners improve their efficiency and decrease the risk of injury through strength training. He helps runners identify muscle or movement imbalances and recover from injuries to get back to what they love.
Spencer has a passion for the outdoors. He is an avid runner, mountain biker, skier and loves to dabble in just about any outdoor activity. He currently sits on the board of directors of a local non-profit trail-building organization, Top Left Trails Co-Op. Spencer enjoys sharing his love for the outdoors with his two children, wife Becca, and their elderly dog.
Dr. Austin Friswold
Presenting on Endurance Training and Foot Care
Dr Austin Friswold is sole Proprietor of Peninsula Foot and Ankle Clinic in Port Angeles. Dr. Friswold is a native PNW who graduated from the University of Washington. He completed his residency at Central Michigan University in Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle. Dr. Friswold is Board Qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Friswold's practice philosophy includes providing comprehensive nonsurgical and surgical care, aiming to return patients to their feet as quickly and painlessly as possible while utilizing the most advanced technology. He has extensive training in sports medicine and treats sports-related issues daily. He has a background in reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He is also an avid endurance runner and hiker.
